Every Monday St. Paul’s Cathedral in downtown Boston serves lunch to more than 100 homeless and needy guests. For more than 20 years, St. Michael’s has provided the meal the first Monday of each month. (Watch the Sunday bulletin for occasional dessert requests.)

We need: Cooks from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., servers during the lunch hour (ideal for people who work downtown!), shoppers, team leaders, and menu planners. Sign up on the upper parish hall bulletin board.

The Food Pantry serves residents in need of food and household items. Located at Parkway Methodist Church on Blue Hills Parkway, it is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. St. Michael’s covers the second and fifth Saturday of the month.

We need: Volunteers to open the pantry, prepare bags for distribution, register clients, shelve inventory and close up. Sign-up sheet is on the upper parish hall bulletin board.

Hungry Sunday

Many people in Milton and surrounding towns are hungry every day of the week. To help our neighbors, St. Michael’s collects food every Sunday for St. Mary’s Church in Dorchester and the Milton Food Pantry. The Sunday bulletin lists the items people are asked to donate the following Sunday, such as cereals, hearty soups, or personal care items. Before the holidays, special food drives give an extra boost to the inventory on our pantries’ shelves.

We need: Donations of food and money; drivers to deliver the food the following week.

Episcopal City Mission

Episcopal City Mission is a faith-based ministry that promotes social and economic justice. Its work is done through congregations, community-based organizations, and people within the Diocese of Massachusetts, with special emphasis on the urban poor and oppressed.peoples

We need: People willing to learn more about the Pelham Fund, which makes low-cost loans to community development financial institutions, and people interested in participating in the Public Policy Network, which encourages legislative response for social and economic justice in our Diocese and its cities.

Epiphany School

Epiphany School is an Episcopal, tuition-free middle school for low-income children located at 154 Centre Street in Dorchester, adjacent to the Shawmut T station. Part of Epiphany’s mission is to serve dinner each school day to its 80 students in grades 5-8. St. Michael’s has committed to serve dinner the first Wednesday of the month.

We need: Volunteers to form meal teams of four or more people to set up, serve the meal, and clean up. (Note: Meals are provided “ready-to-serve.”). The time commitment is from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Each team is headed by a coordinator from St. Michael’s who is the contact person for that meal. Pet Ministry

This ministry provides canine and human companionship to elder residents of Unquity House and Winter Valley. Visits last from 30 to 60 minutes .

We need: Additional members for this team.
